Started the V4 update today and it was a total disaster!!! The foolproof cpu install mechanism that HP uses, well damaged the socket and socket retaining mechanism.  I have installed so many cpu since 1984 and NEVER had an issue.  Now this foolproof just went completely wrong.

You see that blue plastic thing, well it has a gap between the cpu and itself and that is the whole problem.  I have not read anywhere where it says that you need to exchange the holder or that this holder is ONLY for V3 cpu's.

What happens is that it creates a bigger thickness and when you close the latches it crushes the socket pins and in my case, popped out one of the latch handles.  A complete disaster.

Just wrote to someone at HP for some divine intervention because HP Support says that they will NOT cover the warranty on this motherboard.  They even told me that because I did not purchase the cpu through a HP Partner, the cpu would not work!!  That is like saying that you need to have a Coke glass to be able to drink Coke.  Ridiculous.  The problem here is that blue bracket. This is the correct plastic adapter in which NOTHING is mentioned in the user manual.

This was on the Internet. You see the blue corners resting on the cpu, WRONG!!!

Hope I get this resolved.  It would be $2850 waisted on this server.

UPDATE:

Rechecked the cpu socket pins with a very powerful magnifying glass and didn't see any bent pins. Reinstalled the V3 cpu and it's working.  The latch is still broken but I was able to pin it closed and with the heatsink in place, it has remained okay.  It's been several hours now and all working fine.

All I need now is that special blue plastic V4 cpu holder to be able to use the V4 cpu's.  Let's see if I can get two of them.


UPDATE 7-11-2016

Received a call from HP and they are going to send someone out to verify my claim.  They might help out in getting the V4 installed.  The person who called was extremely nice and helpful!!! Things are turning around!!!

Got a call from HP Texas, they are coming in Thursday (tomorrow) to do the cpu installation. ☺
